ABOUT S4P

Our story

Throughout the course of the Israeli genocide of Palestinians commencing Oct. 7th 2023, within Sheffield a group of comrades from various activist groups and university societies befriended each other, united by the shared belief in Palestinian liberation. As February 2024 rolled around and would soon bring with it Lent and Ramadan, the significance of fasting in light of the atrocities happening in the Holy Land was not lost on anyone. Considering the group consisted of Christians and Muslims, the idea to host a solidarity meal between the fasting religions in order to fundraise for Palestine was born. Thus Sheffield4Palestine came into existence.

Who we are

We are a small grassroots group operating in Sheffield, UK, consisting of young adults who volunteer their time to fundraise in order to support relief efforts in Gaza and Palestinians’ medical treatment. None of us have ever or will ever personally profit from Sheffield4Palestine.

Our membership is diverse, with volunteers being of different faiths and with British, Palestinian, North African and South Asian backgrounds. Despite being formed initially in order to host a solidarity event between two Abrahamic religions, we do not operate exclusively on faith. Rather, we work to fundraise with anyone who believes in Palestinian liberation and our membership is not contingent on religious belief.

Who do we work with?

We have collaborated with other pro-Palestinian organisations in Sheffield, such as Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), Barnsley Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Friends of al-Aqsa (FOA) and Sheffield Campus Coalition for Palestine (SCCP).

Our work is made possible by the generosity of the Sheffield community, who are our greatest help. At each event we’ve received overwhelming amounts of donated food and items to sell, auction items have gone for hundreds apiece, and venues such as the Broomhall Centre and SADACCA have allowed us to hire for extremely discounted rates.

Where do we send donations?

Previously, money raised has gone to charities Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP) and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), the emergency relief fund set up Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign, and the GoFundMe of a Palestinian known to us within Sheffield whose family was trapped in Gaza.

From 2025 onwards, we plan to split profits 50:50 between Sheffield PSC’s emergency fund – which provides shelter, food and clothing parcels – and organisations which enable medical aid, such as MAP.

How do we fundraise?

Thus far our events have consisted of buffet-style meals and auctions, accompanied by live music and additional stalls, although our ambition is to soon host larger-scale fundraisers. In early 2025, we aim to launch our new initiative: an online store of handmade goods.

Our values

Sheffield4Palestine is supportive of Palestinian liberation the way it is envisioned by the Palestinians themselves. We advocate for the existence of one state – the state of Palestine – and the right of return for all displaced Palestinians, including their descendants. We also demand the prosecution of Israeli war criminals and sanctions against the state of Israel. Our charity efforts are done out of solidarity with the Palestinians; we wish to uphold their dignity, encourage their resistance and celebrate their resilience and ingenuity.

While our members are anti-Zionist, we all value our relations with our Jewish comrades and oppose anti-Semitism. Our hatred for a colonial state does not equate hatred for Judaism, and we are thankful for the help lended to us by Jewish members of the Sheffield community.
